Greek NATIONAL SCHOOL of PUBLIC HEALTH (NSPH): Implementation of the e-Library to upgrade academic resources and services for the Greek NATIONAL SCHOOL of PUBLIC HEALTH

The e-Library project of the Greek NATIONAL SCHOOL of PUBLIC HEALTH (NSPH) aims to enable access to a collection of thousands of books, papers, journals and to provide tasks and content management as well as digitization services in order to enhance the library’s academic activities. The project is still in early stage and NSPH estimates when it is completed, it will enhance the School’s library catalogue, content and resource services. This project will also provide library access to new types of audience through the introduction of web and mobile services.

The intuitive and integrated environment of the e-Library will allow users the opportunity of searching, browsing as well as studying, over web and over mobile, resources and academic material previously not available in electronic format.  Furthermore, the e-Library system will provide library administrators with advanced and easy-to-use tools for managing records, items and resources in physical format of the NSPH library. The main features of the NSPH’s e-Library are as follows:

  • Manage physical library: The library administrators may make an exhaustive list of aspects of physical books, textbooks, magazines, diplomatic tasks that currently exist in the library and update the system for state borrowing.
  • On-line (web and mobile) search for availability of physical material of the library and on-line book reservation request form: Users of e-library (NSPH students, students from of other universities, health care executives) may seek, by various criteria, the available physical material and see the availability of their loan. Also, if users have the proper rights to borrow, they could apply for reservation of books for borrowing.
  • On-line (web and mobile) analytical specialized searches in digitized content: Users of e-library will be able to make advanced search based on keywords - not just the titles of the available digitized books/papers search in the main text of digitized material (Full -Text-Search).
  • On-line (web and mobile) study of digitized content: The users that will have access to this service of e-library, they can study from their computer the digitized material of NSPH. During the study, users can use utilities on-line tools (Personal notes, highlight, bookmarking, etc.) to facilitate their study.

The e-Library project will be served by a configurable web-based platform for archives and digital collections. This platform supports a variety of metadata standards, external data sources and repositories, as well as most popular media formats such as Dublin Core metadata standards, W3C and 508 compliant, Extensible and customizable item fields, RSS & Atom syndication, CSV Import, Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH), etc. The platform will also offer support for multi-lingual cataloguing, as well as translation of the user interface into at least two languages.

  • Unlimited users
  • Web and mobile access
